The Swedish government is preparing to agree on a fifth package of military aid for Ukraine. Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said this in a comment to TT.
The package includes anti-tank weapons, machine guns and demining equipment. According to him, the Ukrainian side requested this weapon.
“This time we are talking about material support, which Ukraine has specifically requested,” said Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist.
The cost of the support package is 500 million SEK. No later than June 2, a decision was made to supply Ukraine with weapons, including a marine target robot.
Previously, Sweden provided financial support to the Central Bank of Ukraine fund for the defense of Ukraine and a total of SEK 110 million to the NATO Ukraine fund to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“It is important that Ukraine’s support of European democratic countries be permanent and long -term,” Hultqvist said.
When these deliveries take place, Peter Hultqvist does not want to discuss the details, but says it is in the best interest of all that it will happen as soon as possible.
When asked if NATO membership would affect Sweden’s further military support to Ukraine, Peter Hultqvist replied in the negative:
“There are now discussions between different countries about how we can provide greater support together.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke via video link at the NATO summit. He called on NATO countries to give Ukraine more weapons to end the war with Russia as soon as possible.
