Russia may announce a new mobilization before the end of 2024. Bloomberg reports this.
This is because the Russian army does not have enough soldiers to replace losses on the front lines in Ukraine, which have reached the highest level since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, Bloomberg reports, citing three anonymous sources close to the Kremlin and the Russian Defense Ministry.
Regional officials are leaving more than a third of their conscription quotas unfilled on average, despite increased payments to conscripts, according to a person familiar with the situation.
The failure of the Russian army to repel the offensive of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region and take control of the border demonstrated the lack of defense reserves in Russia.
According to one of the agency’s sources, all this could force the Russian authorities to carry out a new mobilization, which could be presented as a “rotation” in order to give a respite to the military on the front lines.
Another Bloomberg source says the order for a new mobilization could be given as early as the end of 2024.
On September 21, 2022, Russian dictator Putin voted for a partial mobilization in Russia, which affected 300,000 Muscovites. At the end of October, Putin said that the mobilization was complete, but did not sign the corresponding decree.
