5 Artists Who Have Been Called Disney Legends

Discover some of the other artists who, throughout history, have also received the coveted title of ‘Disney Legends’

Last Sunday, the 11th, during the third day of D23, Disney’s main convention to announce the studio’s big news and its brands, the ceremony honoring the 14 new Disney Legends took place.

Among celebrities and Disney Cast Members, the night’s big honorees were: Miley Cyrus, Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Cameron, John Williams, James L. Brooks, Frank Oz, Angela Basset, Martha Blanding, Colleen Atwood, Steve Ditko, Mark Henn, Kelly Ripa and Joe Rohde.

Throughout history, other great names have passed through the studio created by Walt Disneyalso had the honor of being elected as “Disney Legends” due to their contribution to the brand — and RECREIO will introduce you to five of them. Check it out!

1. Robin Williams

The actor and comedian Robin Williams was elected a “Disney Legend” in 2009, in the “Film” and “Voice” categories. Throughout his career, the multi-award-winning star collaborated with Disney on productions such as “Aladdin” (1992), voicing the Genie, “Flubber” (1997), and also voiced the Timekeeper in the attraction of the same name at the Magic Kingdom, a Walt Disney World park. Robin passed away on August 11, 2014.


2. Steve Jobs

Born February 24, 1955, the legendary former CEO of Apple and one of the founders of Pixar, Steve Jobswas only elected “Disney Legend” after his death in 2011, due to pancreatic cancer. The businessman received the honor in 2013, in the “Animation” category, thanks to his work in the evolution of computer graphics used in animated films, such as “Toy Story”, where he is credited as executive producer.


3. Stan Lee

Former editor-in-chief and president of Marvel Comics, Stan Leeone of the most legendary comic book artists in history, is a “Disney Legend” in 2017, a year before his death, in the “Films” and “Publications” categories, for his work with the Marvel Universe, creating characters such as Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, X-Men and many more.


4. Robert Downey Jr.

Voted “Disney Legend” in the “Movies” category in 2019, Robert Downey Jr. had his first job at the House of Mouse in 2006, in the comedy “Letting the Dogs Out”. However, he ended up gaining greater prominence after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the MCU, in 2008, giving life to Tony Stark, Iron Man.


5. Christina Aguilera

Also in 2019, another big star who received the honor of “Disney Legend” was the actress and singer Christina Aguilerain the “Music” and “Television” categories. The artist began her career as part of the cast of “Mickey Mouse Club” on Disney Channel in 1993, where she remained for two seasons. In 1998, she launched her musical career thanks to “Mulan”, after performing the song “Reflection”, known as her first big hit, which earned her a contract with RCA Records.
