The Bundestag emphasized that no additional consent from Germany was needed for this, “since the use of arms by Ukraine complies with international law” and is under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
According to Ulrich Lechte, an expert on foreign policy issues of the faction of the Free Democratic Party of Germany in the Bundestag, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can use German weapons on Russian territory without restrictions. The deputy said this in an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).
“We transferred to Ukraine such weapons, taking into account when accounting as direct parts of the military equipment of Ukraine, of course, can use such weapons without restrictions,” Lechte emphasized.
He clarified that any additional permission from Germany is not necessary for this, “because the use of weapons by Ukraine is in accordance with international law” and under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
RND also quoted the words of a representative of the Bundeswehr, who, in response to a similar question, briefly and clearly stated: “These weapons are Ukrainian.”
Earlier, the spokesman of the German Ministry of Defense assured that the weapons transferred to the Ukrainian side will become the property of Ukraine and can be used by it as Kyiv deems necessary and correct.
As we have already written, the United States intends to deploy long-range Tomahawk and SM-6 missiles in Germany from 2026.
