Lithuania is conducting a large-scale investigation into the violation of international sanctions and the smuggling of goods to Russia worth almost two million euros. The suspects are seven individuals and four legal entities. It was reported by the Financial Crimes Investigation Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania.
A group of five Lithuanian citizens, acting on instructions from the Russians, tried to evade international sanctions and export goods banned from importation to Russia.
The group purchased these products from the European Union from March 2022 to August 2024, using falsely named export declarations and declaring destination countries such as Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. The total value of illegally exported goods exceeded 1.9 million euros.
As part of the investigation, 18 searches were conducted at the suspects’ homes, vehicles and businesses in Vilnius. Seized were documents, mobile phones, computers and servers containing information about the activities of the suspects.
The suspects have been charged and a temporary restriction has been placed on their property. Prosecutors warned that violations of international sanctions and smuggling are subject to severe penalties, including fines and prison terms of up to eight years.
