In the Australian city of Cairns, a helicopter crashed into the roof of a hotel, causing a fire. Up to 400 people were evacuated. The Guardian reported this on Monday, August 12.
It is known that the accident occurred around 1:50 am. Two helicopter rotors broke off and fell onto the esplanade and into the hotel’s swimming pool.
About 300-400 people were evacuated from the building and “no people on the ground were injured,” the ambulance service said.
According to the police, the pilot died on the spot and a forensic investigation is being conducted to officially determine his identity. The twin-engine helicopter has one pilot.
Two people from the hotel – a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s – were taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.
