According to the Ukrainian authorities, the Russians may have burned a large amount of car tires in the cooling tower to create panic.
The IAEA confirmed heavy smoke and explosions in the territory of the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant on Sunday, August 11. The head of the Nikopol OVA said that this could be a provocation by the Russians.
“IAEA experts witnessed heavy black smoke rising from the northern part of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant following multiple explosions heard during the night. The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant advised the team of a possible drone attack today on one on the cooling towers located at the site. No impact on nuclear safety has been reported,” the IAEA said.
Meanwhile, the head of the military administration of the Nikopol region, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, reported on Telegram that, according to unofficial information from sources on the opposite bank, the Russians burned a large number of tires of the car in the cooling tower.
“Perhaps this is a provocation or an attempt to create panic in populated areas on the right bank of the former reservoir,” suggested the head of the RVA.
He stressed that the Zaporizhia NPP is working as normal, as much as possible under occupation, and called on the residents of the Nikopol region to calm down.
We remind you that tonight President Vladimir Zelensky said that the Russian invaders started the fire on the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and called on the IAEA to respond.
We remind you that earlier the IAEA expressed concern about the forest fires around the Zaporozhye NPP.
