The fire at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant occurred on Sunday, August 11.
Residents of Nikopol noticed a fire in one of the “atomka” cooling towers on the occupied shore of the former Kakhovka reservoir. This could be a Russian provocation. The head of the Nikopol district military administration, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, reported this on Telegram.
According to unofficial information from sources on the opposite bank, the Russians set fire to a large number of cooling tower tires. It is possible that this was a provocation or an attempt to create panic in populated areas on the right bank of the former reservoir.
Yevtushenko noted that the Zaporizhzhya NPP is operating in a normal mode, as is possible under occupation. The official called on residents of the Nikopol district to remain calm.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has already responded to the provocation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
We are waiting for the world’s reaction, we are waiting for the IAEA’s reaction. Russia must answer for this. Only Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhya station can guarantee a return to normalcy and complete safety, the head of state wrote on Facebook.
As is known, the cooling towers of the Zaporizhzhya NPP are located on the cooling pool, at a considerable distance from the power units of the nuclear power plant. These are buildings for cooling water with atmospheric air.
