The operation in the Kursk region is a huge blow to the prestige of Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.
The Hill writes that the counteroffensive into Russian territory is “stunning.” Ukraine will decide what to do with the territory it holds in Russia.
Tomasz Blusiewicz, a fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, believes that Ukraine will most likely withdraw from Kursk. However, this will only happen after Russia is forced to transfer several brigades there from the front.
Blusevich notes that Russians now have to move around, and they are doing this very poorly.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby reported that the United States continues to communicate with the Ukrainian authorities to understand the goals of the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in the Kursk region.
“I think I’ll leave room here to allow Ukraine to speak one way or another about its military operations. We’re in touch with our Ukrainian counterparts and working to better understand what they’re doing, what their goals are, what their strategy is,” Kirby said when asked by a journalist whether the United States allows Kyiv to conduct counter-fire strikes across the border.
When asked to characterize the situation on the battlefield in the Kursk region, he replied:
We are in contact with our Ukrainian colleagues, and I would refrain from describing what is happening on the battlefield there until those conversations are over and until we feel we have a better idea of what exactly they are doing.
At the same time, the White House representative added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not yet violated the restrictions previously announced by the United States regarding attacks deep into Russia.
