Every day, dozens of passenger buses travel between Lithuania and neighboring Belarus, carrying hundreds of passengers.
Lithuania aims to reduce the number of bus routes to neighboring Belarus. Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite announced possible traffic restrictions on Saturday, August 10, LRT wrote.
Belotite said that there is already a plan to reduce the number of passenger flights in Belarus, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications is responsible for this.
“As far as I know, they have introduced certain measures to reduce traffic. For our part, we have closed border checkpoints, which has reduced the flow,” she said.
At the same time, the representative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Stanislovas Lingis, said that there are no plans to cancel the flights.
“The ministry is currently monitoring the changes in the flow of passengers, and when there is enough data on the changes in the flow a solution will be found,” he said.
It is known that in early March, Lithuania closed two border checkpoints – in Lavorishkes and Raigardas – on the border with Belarus, leaving only two border checkpoints open.
Lithuania has decided to install permanent fortifications in two places near the Kaliningrad region.
Vilnius also believes that the ruling regime of Belarus intends to kidnap Lithuanian citizens.
