On the morning of August 6, it became known that the border in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation had been breached. The Ukrainian military command has not officially commented on the situation.
The Russian military command knew that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were preparing a military operation in the Kursk region, but did not inform Putin about it. Bloomberg wrote this on Thursday, August 8.
An informed source told reporters that the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov and other senior military officials ignored the warning that significant forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and military equipment had gathered in border of the Kursk region.
Intelligence reportedly reported this information two weeks before the operation began.
The source of the publication says that the military in the Russian territory was surprised and did not offer much resistance to the Ukrainian troops at the initial stage.
“Despite such actions by Gerasimov, dictator Putin is unlikely to replace his chairman of the General Staff in the near future, as this is a sensitive issue,” the publication wrote.
Fighting in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation is taking place approximately 26 km from the border. Ukrainian forces have apparently reached the village of Ivnitsa and are trying to cut off the Sudzha-Lgov highway near the village of Anastasievka, Russian pro-war publicists report. According to various reports, at least fifty Russians were captured.
