Two men have been arrested in connection with the suspected terrorist plot, but police are still looking for a third.
In Vienna, three concerts by American singer Taylor Swift were canceled due to terrorist threats. Law enforcement agencies have announced a possible terrorist attack at the stadium where the performer was supposed to perform. This was reported on the website of event organizer Barracuda Music.
“Due to official confirmation of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Gappel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for everyone’s safety,” the organizer said in a statement on the official website.
The concerts are scheduled to take place on August 8, 9 and 10.
According to Sky News, two men have been arrested in connection with a suspected terrorist plot that police said was aimed at attacking future Swift concerts.
US officials familiar with the investigation told Sky News’ US affiliate NBC News that Austrian law enforcement was still looking for other people who may have had knowledge of the alleged plot.
The suspects have been under surveillance for some time and are known to Austrian authorities, the officials added.
According to Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf, one of those arrested was a 19-year-old boy who allegedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group.
“During our investigation, we discovered preparatory activities and noted that the 19-year-old suspect was particularly focused on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna,” said Ruth.
His arrest took place on Wednesday morning, and a second arrest took place in Vienna later that day.
Police said the two men were radicalized online.
They allegedly have specific and detailed plans to carry out attacks on concerts that attract up to 65,000 people every day.
Earlier it was reported that Taylor Swift fans provoked an earthquake at a concert in Switzerland. The simultaneous jumping and dancing of 50,000 fans caused seismic vibrations.
