Tehran explained the closure of its airspace for three hours by military exercises.
Egyptian authorities ordered their airlines to avoid Iranian airspace for three hours on Thursday, August 8, following a request from Tehran. Iran explained its request by holding military exercises, AP reports.
Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry said the ban on Iranian airspace would be in effect from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. For what time, the AP did not specify. Iran’s warning was also extended three hours earlier on Wednesday, the ministry added.
Speaking to Iran’s ISNA news agency, the head of Iran’s international airport in Tehran, Saeed Chalandari, denied the warning not to enter western Iranian airspace, but it was unclear whether it applied to the entire country.
In the past, the media reported that Iran was asking Russia for radars and air defense systems in the context of an alleged large-scale war with Israel.
Iran has promised a “strong response” to Israel’s actions
