The first case of death in Ukraine from the new strain of coronavirus infection, FLiRT, was recorded in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. An 80-year-old woman, a resident of one of the communities in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, died.
This was reported today, August 7, by the publication “Obshchestvennoe” with reference to the general director of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional center for disease control and prevention of the Ministry of Health, Ruslan Savchuk.
Laboratory tests confirmed that she had a subvariant of the FLiRT classic strain Omicron in her body. The woman also had concomitant diseases – diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, – he noted. – The main diagnosis was coronavirus disease, since she had all the symptoms and this was clinically and laboratory confirmed the other day.
It is noted that the pensioner was hospitalized in one of the Ivano-Frankivsk hospitals with a high temperature in serious condition. She was treated and her condition stabilized.
The woman was transferred to the therapeutic department and after a few days, on July 11, she died, Savchuk said. That is, 20 days passed from the moment of hospitalization until the moment when she got worse and the patient died. Doctors provided all possible assistance, but COVID-19 took her life.
Savchuk noted that in the region, the FLiRT subvariant has so far only been confirmed in a deceased pensioner. However, the coronavirus disease is actively circulating.
On Monday, August 5, we had 20 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, and today, in one day, 63 cases were diagnosed in the laboratory, he said. If we compare between June and July, we have an 11% increase in the number of patients.
