The reason for this decision was “the difficult operational situation in the border areas.”
A state of emergency has been declared in the Kursk region of Russia due to the violation of the border by the Ukrainian military. Acting Governor Alexey Smirnov announced this on social networks on Wednesday, August 7.
According to him, the reason for this decision is “the difficult operational situation in the border areas.”
“In order to eliminate the consequences of the event on the territory of the region, the enemy forces decided to introduce an emergency situation in the Kursk region from August 7,” said Smirnov.
The official added that “the necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the residents of the Kursk region are safe.”
Meanwhile, Russian media reported that there were no tanks or artillery left for the defense of the Kursk region. All were sent to the front in Ukraine.
The Russian Armed Forces are mired in fighting on the territory of Ukraine. In the Kursk region, only border guards, territorial defense and conscript soldiers remained. They only have machine guns and a few RPGs.
We remind you that on August 6, the Russian media reported about the attempts of the Ukrainian military to enter the territory of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Currently, according to Russian “military officials”, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have occupied a number of settlements in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, a day after the “border breakthrough” announced by the Russian media, acknowledged the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. The head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, said Russian troops had “stopped the enemy’s advance” deeper into the territory.
The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the incident in the Kursk region.
