Israel has accused 190 employees of the UN agency for helping Palestine refugees in the Near East of kidnapping and killing Israelis in the 2023 Hamas attack.
The United Nations admitted that nine employees of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) participated in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. This was stated in a press release from the organization on Monday, August 5.
The document refers to an investigation into 19 employees. Collected evidence proves that some of them “may have been involved in armed attacks” on October 7.
“For the nine, there is enough evidence to conclude that they may have been involved in the attacks on October 7,” said UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq.
All nine people who may have been involved in the Hamas attack were men, he said.
The internal investigation comes amid accusations that the agency’s workers were involved in attacks last year in Israel, when Hamas killed around 1,200 people in the south of the country. However, the investigations and evidence were “insufficient” to charge ten employees, but for the other nine the evidence showed this involvement.
Earlier, Israeli intelligence confirmed that some employees of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East took part in Hamas attacks on Israel.
According to them, about 190 UNRWA employees, including teachers, are also Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants.
Iran sent a warning to Israel through Hungary of its intended attack. The announced strike would be a “response” to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Ghania in Israel. This is what Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said.
