Four other mayors of the Kherson region remain hostage by the occupiers. Their fate is still unknown.
The leaders of the two occupied communities in the Kherson region were freed from captivity by the Russian occupiers, the Association of Ukrainian Cities reported on June 29.
“On June 28, Oleksandr Babich, the mayor of Holoprystan, and Ivan Samoylenko, the head of the village of Stanislavsky, from the Kherson region, were released from captivity,” the report said.
It noted that Alexander Babich was abducted by Russian occupiers on March 28 for “a patriotic position and honest work in the interest of society, even under employment, and refusal to cooperate.”
Ivan Samoylenko was captured by the enemy on June 24 on a trip, with communal workers, to an emergency area to fix the electrical network.
“Unfortunately, four more mayors remain in captivity, not knowing their fate,” the Association summed up.
It will be recalled that Oleg Khudyakov, 51-year-old former head of the public security police of the Chief Director of the National Police of the Kherson region, who has been in Russian captivity for a week, committed suicide earlier.
