Alexey Kuzmich staged a performance at a cemetery in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, because “the world has run out of artists.”
Belarusian artist Alexei Kuzmich was imprisoned in France for staging a performance at the grave of the famous Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh in France. He will be deported to the European Union. Belarusian portal Reform.news reported yesterday.
The published court decision states that Alexey Kuzmich must leave the EU to return to his country of origin or any country that can legally accept him, with the exception of EU member states Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
It was noted that on July 30, Kuzmich gave a performance at a cemetery in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. He tried to dig Van Gogh’s grave because “the world has run out of artists.”
After that, he was sent to a pre-trial detention center for a month and fined 3,000 euros.
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist artist who is one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over ten years, he produced approximately 2,100 works of art, including approximately 860 oil paintings, most of which are from the last two years of his life. His creative legacy had a major impact especially on French painting. In his lifetime, he failed to gain recognition, and at the age of 37, after mental illness, depression and poverty, he committed suicide.
Remember the painting of Vincent Van Gogh street scene in Montmartre sold for more than 13 million euros at Sotheby’s.
