The top militant was killed on July 13 in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip. The IDF said it had received intelligence confirming Deif’s death, the Times of Israel reported.
And Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the killing of a senior Hamas official was a major step toward eradicating the group.
The assassination of the main killer of Mohammed Deif, Bin Laden of Gaza, on July 13, 2024 is a big step towards eradicating Hamas as a military and governmental organization and achieving our war goals, he wrote on the social network H.
As is known, 58-year-old Deif commanded the Iz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades for more than 20 years. This militant was one of Israel’s most wanted terrorists for a long time. The IDF believes that he was the organizer of the attack on Israel on October 7.
Let us recall that on July 31, one of the leaders of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was liquidated in Tehran. This happened as a result of a high-precision air strike on the Iranian capital.
It is not yet known what weapons Israel used for this. TWZ reported that Haniyeh could have been destroyed by a miniature drone like Elbit’s Lanius, which was first shown in 2022. It is also possible that the Popeye Turbo submarine-launched cruise missile with a range of 1,500 km, which Dolphin-class submarines are equipped with, could have been used for the strike. The third option is an air missile attack using fighters, such as the F-35I.
