The publication reported the meeting of Kamala Harris and Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in 2022.
US Vice President Kamala Harris in February 2022, a few days before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, rejected the idea of preventive sanctions against Moscow proposed by the Ukrainian side. This is stated in the material of the British newspaper Time.
The media said that shortly before the big war in Ukraine, a meeting between Harris and Vladimir Zelensky took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in 2022. Both interlocutors then agreed that an attack by Russia is likely to happen in the near future.
Zelensky called on the US to impose preventive sanctions against Russia, saying it would force Vladimir Putin to reconsider his decision to invade, and also provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons – in particular, anti- aircraft systems, fighter jets and artillery. Harris declined both offers.
The White House explained in the publication that the United States considers the threat of sanctions to be a more effective means of deterrence than their introduction, and providing Ukraine with weapons could strengthen Putin’s belief that Ukraine is a “state of the NATO client.”
“Vice President Harris has been a strong supporter of continued US support for Ukraine and has repeatedly expressed an unwavering commitment to supporting the people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against the brutal aggression of Russia,” the source added.
The 2022 meeting “set the tone for relations” between Zelensky and Harris, “which have never been particularly warm,” the publication said.
As we’ve already written, Harris’s trust rating has risen sharply, while Trump’s has fallen.
