Prisoner exchange: named primary mediator

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said that the United Arab Emirates is the main mediator in the return of Ukrainians from Russian captivity. He spoke about it on Tuesday, July 30, at the telethon.

“For the return of Ukrainian prisoners, we already have the main partner – the UAE, we are very grateful to them.

According to Lubinets, Ukraine is also discussing with UAE diplomats the direction of a humanitarian convoy so that every Ukrainian prisoner of war can receive items, personal hygiene products and medicines.

“But, unfortunately, we haven’t come to an agreement on the Russian side yet,” he added.

The Ombudsman noted that there are other countries that assist Ukraine in the exchange of prisoners of war. But the UAE is now the most effective.

“But this does not mean that other countries do not help us, for example, when countries openly condemn the Russians for not complying with the Geneva Convention, in my opinion, this also helps us to be a more active movement ,” he added Lubinets.

The point is that the actions of the Russian Federation are recognized as war crimes, especially when the occupiers are torturing and killing Ukrainian prisoners of war.
