The General Secretary of the largest German opposition party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Carsten Linnemann, advocates the need to abolish state aid for the unemployed, in particular, Ukrainian refugees. The politician said this in an interview with the publications of the Funke media group.
According to him, in Germany “a six-figure number of people fundamentally do not want to work,” which means they will not be encouraged to look for work because of cuts in social benefits. In his opinion, only the complete abolition of such payments will be effective.
The CDU politician, in particular, mentioned Ukrainian refugees receiving benefits.
“We should discuss why more than 50% of Ukrainians work in many European countries, but only 25% in Germany,” said Linnemann.
We are talking about the lack of incentives on the part of the federal government to encourage refugees from Ukraine to find work, the politician believes.
“Ukrainians also defend our freedom but if there is a benefit, instead, it is related to work,” the party secretary explained his opinion.
Germany’s federal government wants to introduce stricter rules to attract more welfare recipients to work: refusal to work and illegal work are proposed to be punished with aid cuts.
Ukrainian refugees answered how satisfied they are with life in the EU
