To the southwest of the city, Russian occupation forces have still not broken through the Ukrainian army’s fortifications, which were built before February 2022. However, the Russians are already advancing on Toretsk from the west through Zhelezny and Severny, as well as from the south through the village of New York. As a result, a standoff has formed in the Ukrainian positions, said Bild military analyst Julian Repke.
According to his information, the enemy is trying to create a kind of cauldron on this section of the front. The specialist is sure that the Ukrainian defense forces will have to retreat if they fail to drive the Russians out of residential areas of New York.
Otherwise, they are completely cordoned off there, which they do not want. Therefore, most likely, they will leave there soon, the expert believes.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s report for July 26 indicates that the enemy carried out attacks seven times in the Toretsk direction near Zhelezny, Severny and New York. Combat contact is currently ongoing near each of these settlements.
Let us recall that the Toretskaya area west of Gorlovka has become one of the hottest sections of the front in recent weeks. The American Institute for the Study of War suggests that if Toretskaya is captured, the Russian command expects to use this area as a staging area for an offensive either to the north, to Vremen Yar, or to the southwest toward the Avdeyevka salient and Pokrovsk, depending on which direction it shows.
