The 101-year-old man has been accused of helping and conspiring to kill thousands of inmates in the camp. He was not guilty, telling the court he never served in Sachsenhausen.
A land court in Neuruppin, Germany on Tuesday, June 28, sentenced a 101-year-old former Sachsenhausen concentration camp guard to five years in prison. He was accused of helping and conspiring to kill thousands of prisoners in the camp. DW reports.
The process took nine months. Defendant never pleaded guilty, stating in court that he did not serve in Sachsenhausen, but worked on a farm in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern within the period specified in the indictment. However, the prosecutor’s office presented the documents of the concentration camp guard, whose name, surname and date of birth fully matched the defendant’s data.
More than 200,000 prisoners passed through the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, built in the summer of 1936, until the end of World War II. Among them were political opponents of the Nazi regime, as well as Jews, Sinti and Roma, foreign prisoners of war. Tens of thousands of prisoners died from starvation, disease, forced labor, medical experiments, and SS abuse.
Recall, earlier it was reported that Russia’s top political leadership had jointly planned the invasion, and they wanted to send Ukrainians to build new cities in Siberia. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu have even prepared prison camps for Ukrainians in Western Siberia.
