G7 leaders are urging China to put pressure on Russia because of the war in Ukraine

Leaders of the Group of Seven countries called on China to put pressure on Russia to immediately withdraw troops from Ukrainian territory. This is stated in the joint communique of the heads of state and government of the G7, adopted as a result of the summit on June 26-28 in Germany.

“While Russia is waging its unjust, unreasonable and illegal war against Ukraine, we call on China to insist that Russia immediately comply with the legally binding order of the International Court of Justice on March 16, 2022, to comply with the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly – and immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops from Ukraine, ”the communiqué said.

G7 leaders expressed the need to work with China on common global challenges and called on the PRC to fulfill its obligations under international law and contribute to international security.

“We remind China to adhere to the principle of the UN Charter for the peaceful settlement of disputes and refrain from threats, coercion, intimidation or use of force,” the communiqué said.
