The restrictions are in effect in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation, Buryatia and Crimea. The reason was an accident at the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant and Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant in Buryatia.
About a million people in several regions of Russia and in part of occupied Crimea were left without electricity as a result of the accidents. RosSMI reported this on Tuesday, July 16.
In particular, due to an emergency shutdown of the Rostov NPP power unit, large-scale power outages occurred in the southern regions of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, Rosenergoatom said that the protection at the station was activated and the supposedly safe operation of the facility was not threatened, and the background radiation was normal.
However, due to the increased load on the energy system, the Russian Ministry of Energy introduced temporary schedules for limiting electricity consumption by 1.5 gigawatts.
Restrictions are in effect in several large cities, including Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Krasnodar, Elista, Anapa, Armavir, Gelendzhik, Novorossiysk, and Stavropol. In these communities, the streets are unlit, traffic lights are not working, traffic jams in some areas and problems in the operation of public transport and mobile communications.
There were also rolling blackouts in Crimea, but there they were explained by “abnormal heat.” Blackout schedules were also introduced throughout the occupied peninsula. At the same time, trolleybus traffic stopped in Sevastopol. Power outages were also reported in Yevpatoria.
We remind you that in Buryatia there was an accident at the Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant, as a result of which 115 thousand residents of the region were left without electricity supply. One of the three power units there was turned off, and local residents wrote on social networks that they heard a loud explosion and saw smoke above the facility. However, the authorities have not made an official comment on this matter. From the neighboring region of Irkutsk, it is necessary to redistribute the power of the electric system to lead Buryatia.
Earlier it became known that power outages in the Krasnodar region of Russia affected more than 325 thousand people, in the Rostov region – more than 226 thousand people.
