Rosatom stated that one of the power units of the Rostov NPP automatically disconnected from the grid “due to problems with the turbogenerator.”
The publication 93.ru reports that the power outage has stopped tram and trolleybus service in Krasnodar. 150 traffic lights are also out of order in the city. The Novorossiysk railway station is without power. The Krasnodar Municipal Control Center announced a power outage due to an accident on the power grid in the Western District.
In addition, in Buryatia, shortly before the shutdown, an explosion occurred at the Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant, which effectively shut down two of the plant’s three power units.
Electricity consumption restrictions have been introduced in the south of Russia with a total capacity of 1.5 GW. The occupation authorities of Crimea have also limited electricity consumption and introduced hourly power outage schedules. Trolleybuses are stopped in the center of Sevastopol, traffic lights are not working.
Sevastopolenergo reported that this was due to “abnormally high air temperatures.”
Rostov NPP is the largest energy enterprise in the south of Muscovy. It is located 13 km from Volgodonsk. The station provides about 75% of electricity production in the Rostov region.
