The Lithuanian government says that it provides aid in accordance with the needs of our country and does not want to contribute to the brain drain.
Official Vilnius will no longer cover education expenses for Ukrainian students from September this year. This decision was made at the request of Ukraine. This is what the Lithuanian Ministry of Education said in a comment to local media LRT on Monday, July 15.
At the same time, students from Ukraine who have already entered the university will be able to graduate without paying tuition fees, but from September this opportunity will no longer be available to new students.
The Lithuanian department stressed that it provides all assistance to Ukrainians in accordance with Ukraine’s needs and does not want to encourage a “brain drain” from the country.
“This is the desire of the Ukrainian side. There are higher educational institutions in Ukraine, and now there is no need to transfer training to other places,” explained the ministry.
The media clarified that from this year, Ukrainians who received secondary education and passed final exams in Lithuania will be subject to the same general rules as Lithuanian citizens.
Despite this decision by the authorities, some higher education institutions have decided to continue fully or partially funding the education of Ukrainian students.

We remind you that the head of the Lithuanian government, Ingrida Simonyte, reported that the country transferred one million euros, including for the restoration of the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv.
