Eileen Cannon decided to drop the case, citing the alleged “illegal appointment of a special prosecutor.”

Florida District Judge Eileen Cannon decided on Monday, July 15, to dismiss the federal case against Donald Trump for improper storage of classified documents, one of four criminal proceedings against the former president. It was reported by Reuters.

Cannon, a Trump appointee, decided to drop the case, citing the alleged “illegal appointment of US Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith.” The latter is the prosecutor in this case.

Trump’s lawyers have previously laid out their position that the prosecutor was illegally appointed. According to them, Special Counsel Smith’s office allegedly violates the US Constitution because it needs to be approved by Congress.

As you know, in March the matter almost came to the seizure of Trump’s property.
