The rapprochement between Russia and China began in 2003 after the American operation in Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein’s regime. It intensified after the 2008 financial crisis, triggered by the shortcomings of the US banking system.

Both events marked a loss of confidence in the political and economic model proposed by the Americans. After Russia occupied Crimea in 2014 and broke with the West, the process accelerated. Both countries believe that the existing world order benefits only the United States and its allies, so it should be remade, according to an article published on the Bloomberg website.
Russia supplies China with oil, gas and advanced weapons systems, and China has become the main supplier of products that the West deprived Russia of after its invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian-Chinese alliance is also causing great concern in the West because of China’s aggressive plans for Taiwan. At the same time, Moscow and Beijing are spending huge amounts of money on military needs, not inferior to American defense spending, and all this cannot but cause serious concern for the United States, Japan and their allies.
