The Polish Sejm has allowed border guards to shoot at violators of the Polish border with live ammunition.

Visegrad 24 reports that 401 deputies voted for the changes to the legislation. Another 17 legislators voted against, and the same number abstained.
The amendments introduce provisions into the Polish Criminal Code that exclude criminal liability of border guards for actions committed under certain circumstances. This concerns the use of weapons or means of direct coercion in violation of the current regulations.
The condition for not recognizing such an action of a soldier or officer as a crime is circumstances that require immediate action. We are talking about a situation where the violation of the rules is due to an immediate danger to the life of a serviceman or the security of the borders of the republic.
The bill was developed by the country’s Ministry of Defense following a corresponding order from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz.
The power of attorney was issued against the backdrop of the high-profile events that took place on the border between Poland and Belarus in March.
Then three soldiers opened warning fire from automatic weapons in the direction of a group of 50 migrants storming the border. A total of 43 shots were fired. The border guards were then detained.
