We are always concerned about preventing war, Scholz said after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Scholz also promised again that Germany would control arms supplies to Ukraine so that they do not lead to a direct confrontation with Russia.
Earlier this week, Germany and the United States announced an agreement to deploy American long-range missiles on German territory from 2026, including hypersonic weapons.
Moscow officials reacted harshly to the statement, accusing Germany and the United States of escalating tensions.
