Signed by 20 countries, the Ukraine Compact unites these countries in a comprehensive security architecture to support Ukraine not only now, but in the years to come.
US President Joe Biden said the Ukraine Compact, concluded by 20 countries to support Ukraine, unites allied states in “a comprehensive security architecture.” Biden said this while speaking at a meeting with allies at the NATO summit on Thursday, July 11.
He noted that it will help the defense of Ukraine, especially, in the long term.
The US leader also spoke about the working details of the new agreement with Ukraine.
“Now we are taking the next step in collective security support – this is the Ukraine Security Compact How it works Last year, the G7 countries signed a declaration for long-term support for Ukraine, not only during the war , but also after the victory,” Biden said.
He said that 20 countries have joined and entered into security agreements with Ukraine.
“This agreement unites these countries in a single comprehensive security architecture to support Ukraine not only now, but in the years to come,” the US President emphasized.
As for the short term, according to Biden, “we will provide Ukraine with ammunition, weapons, training to counter Russian aggression.”
“In the medium term, we will help build an army to protect Ukraine and deter new aggression so that if Putin decides to do it again, all countries will support it,” Biden explained.
He also recalled his words that “we are building a “bridge” for Ukraine to NATO.”
“This is the path to future membership. This agreement is at the center of this bridge. We are united against Putin in this senseless and cruel war,” Biden concluded.
As reported, the EU and 21 countries (including Ukraine) signed the Ukrainian Treaty, which provides for the implementation of the goals set in bilateral agreements on the security of Ukraine.
Let’s recall that President Vladimir Zelensky called the Ukrainian Treaty one of the main achievements of the NATO summit.
