Armin Papperger, after information about the intentions of the Russian Federation to kill him, was protected at the same level as Chancellor Scholz.
Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said Germany gave him the highest level of protection after information about Russia’s attempt to liquidate him. The Financial Times reported this on Thursday, July 11.
Before this, CNN reported that US intelligence had warned German colleagues about Russia’s plan to kill Papperger. Berlin responded by strengthening the security of the head of the arms concern.
In a comment to the Financial Times, Papperger said the German government had provided “a high level of security around my person.” At the same time, he neither confirmed nor denied reports of an assassination attempt on him, but said that CNN was not just looking at the sky.
A source familiar with Papperger’s security told the FT that his security measures were “at the highest level” – similar to the protection of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Asked about the possible threat to his life, the Rheinmetall CEO said: “I always feel safe. I am a very happy person.”
Two NATO diplomats confirmed to the FT the foiled Russian attempt on Papperger’s life, adding that they were invested in Russian intentions to increase the number of hybrid attacks and sabotage in Europe.
It was previously reported that earlier this year, US intelligence discovered that the Russian government was planning to kill Papperger. The assassination attempt was one of a series of Russian plans to kill defense industry executives across Europe who were helping Ukraine, the channel’s sources said.
Let’s remember that at the end of April, left-wing extremists, angered by arms supplies to Ukraine, burned down the house of Rheinmetall head Armin Papperger.
