This decision was a response to negotiations between the Hungarian prime minister and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The governments of Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland will not send ministers to meetings organized by Hungary during its Presidency of the Council of the EU. This was reported by Reuters on Thursday, July 11, citing a statement by the Minister for European Affairs of the Swedish government, Jessica Rosvall.
It is noted that this country’s decision was made in protest against the negotiations between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
“Hungary’s actions during the presidency are harmful and must have consequences. Therefore, Sweden will not participate at the political level in the informal government meetings in July,” he said.
Rosvall added that Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland will be represented at ministerial meetings at the level of civil servants, not ministers.
Also, according to Roswall, other EU member states are also discussing similar actions.
Let’s recall that last week Orban visited Kyiv, Moscow and Beijing, where he allegedly discussed “peace initiatives” to end the war in Ukraine.
