The right to self-defense includes the right to strike legitimate military targets on Russian territory.
Ukraine has the right to use weapons provided by allies to strike legitimate military targets on Russian territory. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a joint press conference with President Vladimir Zelensky in Washington on Thursday, July 11.
“It is important to understand that at the beginning of the war and, in fact, until recently, most of the battles took place on the territory of Ukraine. But since Russia opened a new front in Kharkov, the front line is already different. and to strike military targets, missile launcher installations or airfields to prevent attacks against Ukraine will launch strikes on Russian territory.
Stoltenberg said he welcomes the allies’ decision to reduce restrictions on the use of weapons. According to him, the right to self-defense includes the right to strike legitimate military targets on the territory of the aggressor country – Russia.
“There is no doubt that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons it receives to strike legitimate military targets on Russian territory,” emphasized the NATO Secretary General.
Let’s remember that Russia threatened the United States with a “retaliation” for facilitating strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Crimea and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
