By this time, the Russians had lost most of their 138th Motorized Rifle Brigade at Volchansk, and had also suffered heavy losses in the 83rd and 157th Tank Regiments.
In addition, the 83rd Air Assault Brigade continued to suffer losses, sometimes losing several dozen people per day, which was confirmed by both prisoners and radio interceptions.
