After a poor debate performance with Donald Trump, Joe Biden is fighting for his political survival.
The White House once again had to allay concerns about US President Joe Biden’s health. In the past few days, Biden has blasted his critics, recalled the mandate he won in the Democratic primaries and challenged his opponents to challenge him. Biden has repeatedly promised to continue his campaign. He insisted that the time for doubts and thoughts about his candidacy has passed. The time to act begins at the NATO summit.
New disease
American journalists are interested in visits to the White House by neurologist and Parkinson’s disease specialist Kevin Cannard. According to American media, Cannard, who works at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, visited the White House eight times from August last year to March 2024.
These visits are recorded in a publicly accessible visit log. At one of the meetings, the incoming president’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, was listed as a guest.
“Has the President been treated for Parkinson’s disease? Nope. Is he being treated for Parkinson’s disease? No, there is no treatment. Is he taking medication for Parkinson’s disease? No,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
According to him, Biden’s annual medical examination for the past three years included a visit to a neurologist, and he did not reveal any signs of Parkinson’s disease, sclerosis or other disorders of the nervous system.
Biden stands firm
The White House also rejected suggestions that US NATO allies were concerned about Biden’s condition ahead of the alliance’s summit in Washington.
“We are not receiving any such signal from our allies,” White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
The pressure on the White House and personally on Joe Biden after his unsuccessful performance in the debate with Donald Trump on June 27 continues to grow.
However, Biden insists he is committed to running for president.
CBS News reported that the president spoke on the phone Monday afternoon with Democratic Party donors and assured them that he remained in the race.
CBS sources also said Biden intended to leave the debate topic behind and focus on an attack strategy aimed at Trump and the Republican agenda.
Earlier, five Democrats in Congress (members of the House of Representatives from Texas, Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts and Minnesota) publicly called on Biden to withdraw from the race. They were joined Monday night by Washington State Congressman Adam Smith.
On Monday, Joe Biden made an unexpected call to MSNBC’s Morning Joe show and said he was disappointed with those calling for him to drop out of the presidential race.
“Any of these people who don’t think I should run, run against me. Run for president, challenge me at the convention,” he said.
First lady Jill Biden also spoke publicly in support of her husband.
“Joe made it clear that he was all over it,” he said at the event in North Carolina.
