The Bulgarian State National Security Agency (SANS) detained the head of the non-governmental organization National Movement of Russophiles-Plovdiv Zlatomir Devlensky, Novinite reported on Monday, July 8.
It was noted that the detention took place on July 8 at the organizational headquarters of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
During the operation, documents were obtained from the traffic department.
The reasons for Devlensky’s detention were not officially reported.
According to information on the website of the Rhodope City Council, Devlensky is in the position of junior expert in the Coordination and Projects department.
He is also receiving a PhD from the University of Plovdiv. Previously, he completed graduate school at Astrakhan State University in the Russian Federation.
Subsequently, the media learned that SANS detained another person in Plovdiv. The details were not disclosed, only that the authorities are investigating the “disclosure of state secrets.”
Earlier, the Latvian State Security Service (VDD) detained two people who were collecting classified information for the Russian intelligence services.
Let’s remember that, according to media reports, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU, Kirill Logvinov, is probably a spy. He is suspected of secretly working against European interests and spying for Russian intelligence services.
We previously reported that two Ukrainian citizens and a Belarusian woman were convicted in Poland in December 2023 of spying for Russia. The spies received prison sentences, but because they were not arrested at the time of sentencing, they escaped justice.
