The North Atlantic Council decided to appoint Rutte as the next Secretary General of NATO. Rutte will take power on October 1.
The former head of the Dutch government Mark Rutte will face his responsibilities as the new Secretary General of NATO, and if necessary, find compromise and balance. The current head of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said this on Saturday, July 6, in an interview with dpa.
He noted that he was very pleased with the choice of allies regarding the candidacy of the next head of the organization.
“Mark Rutte will be a good NATO secretary general. I have known him for many years. He has also shown all these years his ability to build consensus, which he will bring with him to NATO,” said by Stoltenberg.
He added that he did not expect his term to last ten years.
“But now it is time to leave, and therefore it is good for NATO and good for me,” concluded Stoltenberg.
Let’s remember that on June 26, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, was confirmed as the Secretary General of NATO.
Zelensky assured that he will continue to communicate with Rutte as the new Secretary General of NATO.
