Alliance members will agree on mechanisms for distributing the financial burden based on the size of each state’s GDP, the Secretary General explained.
The issue of supporting Ukraine will be the “most urgent task” of the Alliance summit, which will be held in Washington. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a press conference in Brussels on Friday, July 5.
“Ukraine must win, and for this our continued help is needed. Therefore, I hope that during the summit next week, the heads of state and government will agree on a solid package for Ukraine,” said Stoltenberg.
First of all, we are talking about NATO’s security and training program. In particular, NATO will coordinate and deliver the majority of international security assistance to Ukraine. A separate NATO command for Ukraine will be created in Germany.
NATO leaders in Washington will also consider long-term financial commitments.
According to him, NATO member countries will agree on mechanisms for the distribution of the financial burden, based on the size of the GDP of each state, ensuring that Ukraine receives sufficient support for success.
“The third part is more immediate military support for Ukraine. I expect the allies to provide more air defense systems, more ammunition and other capabilities. The fourth is the conclusion of more bilateral security agreements in Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
All these efforts, according to the head of the NATO bloc, will make Ukraine stronger, more compatible with NATO forces and better prepare it for joining NATO, emphasized the Secretary General of the Alliance.
As you know, at the NATO summit in Washington next week, Ukraine will be offered “concrete ways” to speed up its future membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
