The special operation was carried out by the Main Intelligence Directorate together with the Security Service of Ukraine. Drones hit two main electrical substations in the Belgorod region, which led to the complete blackout of the plant. All electric arc furnaces in the plant, in which the metal had frozen, stopped working.
The plant’s products are used by a number of companies in the Russian military-industrial complex. Considering that the enterprise was built by German specialists, it will be difficult to resume the plant’s work.
The Electrometallurgical Plant is of exceptional importance for the military-industrial complex of the terrorist federation. The facility produced high-quality steel, including alloyed types of special steel (SBQ) for the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, using the MIDREX direct reduction iron technology and electric arc smelting.
On April 2, 2023, the Metalloinvest holding and the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant were included in the sanctions lists of the United States and Great Britain.
