The exercises are aimed at “strengthening the readiness of the artillery and the ability to respond in the event of provocations from the enemy.”
South Korea has resumed shooting exercises at firing ranges near the border with North Korea, which were suspended six years ago as part of bilateral agreements to reduce tensions. This was reported by Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday, July 2.
Artillery shooting exercises took place in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces, and K-9 self-propelled artillery units were used.
South Korea’s military said the drills were aimed at “strengthening artillery readiness and response capabilities in the event of enemy provocations.”
The South Korean army plans to regularly conduct artillery exercises and training in border areas.
As you know, on June 4, North Korea suspended the implementation of the agreement to reduce tensions on September 19, 2018 after the launch of the DPRK’s garbage balloons.
Let’s recall that on June 18, dozens of North Korean military personnel briefly crossed into South Korean territory. The South Korean military fired warning shots. This is North Korea’s second border violation, less than two weeks after a similar incident on June 9.
Since the end of May, North Korea and South Korea have been “at war” with wolves. North Korea launches garbage balloons, and from Seoul balloons fly with postcards containing slogans against North Korean leader Kim Jong-in, as well as money, food and recordings of famous singers.
