The U.S. Army said it uses the status when something happens or intelligence is received that indicates the possibility of terrorist activity or attacks on personnel or facilities.
The level of protection, according to CNN sources, was raised to level two due to concerns that terrorist attacks could be carried out against military personnel or facilities at these bases.
In particular, such a level of danger was introduced on Sunday, June 30, at the American military base in Stuttgart, Germany, where the headquarters of the US command in Europe is located.
One of the publication’s interlocutors said that they had not seen this level of threat for “at least ten years.”
It is not known what intelligence data prompted the tightening of security measures. CNN suggested that it may be related to statements about a potential terrorist threat in the run-up to the Olympic Games and during the European Football Championship. In addition, the media previously wrote that the intelligence services of European countries warned their governments about the threat of sabotage from Russia.
