Lieutenant General Jenny Carignan will be appointed as Canada’s Chief of the Defense Staff, the first woman to hold this post. This was reported by CBC News, citing a high-ranking source.
It is known that Karignan will replace General Wayne Eyre as the head of the Canadian Armed Forces.
According to the publication, since the creation of this post in 1964, Canada has had 21 heads of defense departments, and all of them have been men. Karignan was offered a position and accepted. Trudeau is expected to formally announce his appointment on Tuesday, July 2.
