The adoption of the Mine Action Strategy is one of the indicators of the Ukraine Facility, a financial support program for Ukraine from the EU.
On June 28, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the National Mine Action Strategy for the period until 2033 and the Operational Plan for its implementation for the next three years. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.
The document identifies three strategic goals:
-
liberation of territories from explosive substances for their safe and productive use;
-
reducing the impact of explosives on the life and health of the population;
-
development of a control system for countermeasures activities.
The plan also specifies a detailed list of activities for 2024–2026. Such plans are adopted every three years.
According to Minister of Economy Yuliy Sviridenko, the goal of the strategy is to reduce the impact of explosives on people’s lives and the economy of Ukraine in the next 10 years. Some of the work identified in the Strategy is already underway. Ukraine has already launched a compensation program for demining agricultural land, unified the certification procedure for operators, and partners are purchasing equipment and machinery for humanitarian demining needs , including Ukrainian production.
As noted by the Ministry of Economy, the adoption of the Mine Action Strategy is one of the indicators of the Ukraine Facility, a financial support program for Ukraine from the EU.
We remind you that this year in Ukraine the inspection and clearing of agricultural land has accelerated compared to 2023. Since the beginning of the year, deminers have inspected more than 146 thousand hectares of agricultural land and returned more than 137.8 thousand hectares in economic use.
It is also reported that partner countries have increased aid for humanitarian demining of Ukrainian territory by more than $35 million.
