Last year, Poland’s Europol Gaz, which is owned by Orlen, filed a $1.45 billion lawsuit against Gazprom for overdue payments and lost revenue from gas transportation services after 2022.
Europol Gaz operates the Polish section of the Yamal gas pipeline connecting Russia with Europe. In 2022, Muscovy stopped supplying gas through the pipeline because Poland rejected demands to pay for fuel in rubles.
Now Orlen is demanding, in particular, from the Hungarian MVM CEEnergy more than 350 million dollars as collateral for the debt to Gazprom.
Hungary and Slovakia have made legislative changes to avoid the seizure of funds intended for Gazprom.
In addition to the Polish Orlen, the German concern Uniper may demand the arrest of payments. In early June, the Stockholm Arbitration ordered Gazprom to pay the German company more than 13 billion euros for stopping gas supplies to Germany.
