The species were named at the same time in honor of two things: the sailing of animal crest and British Yachtsman Ellen MacArthur, who in 2005 set a world of worldwide -world swimming.
Scientists have identified a new type of dinosaur with an expressive sailing structure on the back and tail, which has probably served to attract the partners’ attention during marriage, reports The Guardian.
Dinosaur belongs to the group of Iguanodonts, and its fossils are found in the Island of White (UK). The discovery was made by Dr. Jeremy Lockwood, graduate of studying the University of Portsmouth and an employee of the London Museum of Natural History. He gave the name of the namedatochis MacArthurae -by unifying the words “Sailing Ridge” and the name of the British Yachtsman, Ellen MacArthur, who in 2005 set a world -world record of the fastest –world, one journey without stop.
Prior to this review, the debris, the age of 125 million years, were considered part of one of the two previously known types of dinosaurs located on the island. However, after a detailed comparison of the database of similar fossils, it has become clear that we are talking about a unique copy. Lokwood explained that the plot is incomplete as some other found, but this is this individual who is unusually elongated neural spinous vertebrae processes – a sign that it recognizes others.
According to him, these bone processes are formed by a kind of “sail” behind. Lokwood noted that in modern reptiles, such elements are often expressed stronger to men, indicating their role in attracting women or scary rivals. “Sometimes evolution prefers the effectiveness of practicality. The purpose of such structures for a long time is the subject of discussions -from thermoregulation to storage of fat, but the most likely explanation in this case is visual signals associated with demonstration during marriage,” the researcher added.
We remind you, earlier reported that in the USA they found a new type of dinosaur the size of a dog.
In Mongolia, the closest ancestor of Tyrannosaurs was discovered
