In a video message on the evening of June 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine has officially begun membership negotiations with the European Union. The head of state also noted the decision of the International Criminal Court on the former Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov.
“We have officially started negotiations with the European Union regarding membership. This is a historic result. We have been working towards this for a long time, and today we held the first intergovernmental conference, and we are definitely implementing everything necessary to go through every section of our relations with the EU and create an agreement – an accession agreement with Ukraine,” Zelensky stressed.
The president also noted the legal battle with Russia, especially the new warrants from the International Criminal Court.
“Shoigu, Gerasimov – your path to The Hague is open. There is also a decision of the European Court of Human Rights on the responsibility of Russia for everything that was done in our Crimea against people and against the law. ” said the head of state.
Zelensky also emphasized the importance of a just peace for Ukraine – steps to ensure that security is fully restored.
“After the Peace Summit, this is the eighth participant to join the joint communiqué, and we are only increasing the pressure on Russia for a fair end to this war. And we are preparing working groups for the sake of peace,” the president said. .
We remind you that the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Shoigu and Gerasimov. According to the court, they were responsible for attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine and committed crimes against humanity.
