Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fial announced the transfer of these shells to the Ukrainian side. He published the corresponding message on June 25 on the social network X.
The first batch of ammunition on our initiative arrived in Ukraine some time ago. We are doing everything necessary, the message says.
As you know, in February, Czech President Petr Pavel said that he had found 800 thousand shells of 122 mm and 155 mm caliber for supplies to Ukraine in states outside the European Union and NATO.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipovsky announced on May 30 that supplies of ammunition to the Ukrainian army as part of the Czech initiative will begin in June. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive from 50 to 100 thousand large-caliber shells every month.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that thanks to the Czech initiative, Ukraine could receive up to a million shells by the end of 2024.
Earlier it was reported that the Czech initiative on ammunition for Ukraine was financially supported by only four countries – Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal. Although previously this initiative provided financial commitments from 18 countries, mainly members of the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance.
